Filing of returns on TaxProMax – FIRS

The central tax authority in Nigeria has launched an online portal for tax filing and administration affairs. Taxpayers can register a new business, make payments, and access their withholding tax status through TaxPro Max, an online portal. TaxPro Max is the latest automated administration solution from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). The portal displays more features and capabilities compared to earlier modules.

Effective from 7 June 2021, taxpayers will file all naira-denominated returns due to FIRS through the TaxPro Max e-filing portal. Existing users can log in while new users must register to access the online service.

To pay the tax liability, a user must generate a Document Identity Number (DIN) from the portal. A taxpayer who prefers to file the tax returns in hard copy should visit the local tax office or send an email to [email protected]. A dedicated team will assist the taxpayer to upload the tax returns and generate a DIN. Taxpayers are encouraged to submit their manual returns for upload at least two weeks before the filing deadline.

FIRS released the guidelines for e-filing within the same period as a major deadline for filing income tax returns in Nigeria. Electronic filing of tax returns at short notice often creates accessibility issues and limited real-time support for users. FIRS may consider a more flexible approach, at the initial stage, in the form of waiving penalties and interest for returns due in June and July 2021.
