Get Tax ID from Joint Revenue Board Nigeria

As part of the tax reforms in Nigeria, the functions and powers of the Joint Tax Board have been phased out. A new board, the Joint Revenue Board (JRB), will replace the JTB in 2026. One of the roles of the JTB was to give a tax identification number (TIN) to taxable persons in Nigeria. The Joint Revenue Board will not only perform this function but also ensure better coordination of TIN for all taxpayers.

To create an efficient tax administration, the JRB and the Nigerian Revenue Service (formerly Federal Inland Revenue Service) have launched the Nigerian Tax ID Portal. The Tax Identification (Tax ID) is a unique number assigned to all taxpayers in Nigeria, which allows the revenue authority to identify a taxable person. A unified means of identifying taxpayers will enable persons to have easy access to tax-related services. Taxpayers across Nigeria can use the new portal starting January 1, 2026. The new ID will replace any TIN issued before 2026. The aim is for tax administration purposes. There will be no deduction from a customer’s bank account balance, nor will the bank close an account without one.
